THE THIRD GRADE HISTORY PROGRAM
The Centerville Historical Museum's Third Grade Program began in 2000 as a collaborative effort between the museum and local third grade educators. Each spring a dedicated group of museum volunteers coordinate this program that combines hands-on teaching techniques, educational walking tours of historic Main Street, and guided tours of selected museum exhibits.

Participating schools include Hyannis East, Marstons Mills, Centerville, Osterville and Cotuit elementary schools. If you would like to learn more about having your school or class involved with our program, let us know!

The museum wishes to thank these sponsors who generously contribute to the Third Grade History Program: Town of Barnstable Enoch T. Cobb Trust, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank's Charitable Foundation Trust and Rotary Club of Osterville.

HANDS ON HISTORY AT THE MUSEUM
Students examine a Civil War-era firearm from the museum's collectionThird graders spend time at the museum learning about three periods in Centerville's history: "19th Century Simple Machines," "Maritime History of Centerville" and "The Civil War." By studying actual artifacts from the museum's permanent collection as well as the immediate architecture and monuments near the museum, students get to actively participate and explore their own important local history.

Our local volunteers include Gail Vincent, Barbara Fahrenholz, Adelaide McMurrer, Susan Ford, Gee Gee Murphy, Dianne Kelly, Barbara Dunn, Shirley Fisher, Fran Milne, Nadeane Carlisle, Joanne McAteer, Joyce Canniff & Grace Sweeney.
